Hi!
I'm looking to do med at UWS, however I'm interested in studying a science degree first and try transfer after my first year.
Is there a difference between between B Sci and B Sci (Avd) same goes for B Med Sci.
By just studying B Sci (not advanced) can I still be able to transfer into Med after the first year?

Thank you in advanced! :)

Hey there. I'm not really sure to be honest because I don't do anything science related at uni. I think your best point of contact would be studentcentral. They're great. They will be able to provide you with all the information you need regarding differences in degrees etc. Check out these sites for differences between B Science and B Science (Adv):
http://future.uws.edu.au/future_students_home/ug/sciences/science
http://future.uws.edu.au/future_students_home/ug/sciences/advanced

so with the advanced degree, you learn things at a greater depth and do some coursework and further research which is not a part of the B Science degree. High achievers usually are accepted into the advanced degree.

For info on medical science:

This is more to do with medical research and pharmacology and the like. Whereas the science degree is more broad if I understood correctly. Anyone correct me if i'm wrong on this. I have a few friends who have done medical science and transferred into medicine. It is a competitive degree, but one that a lot of people enjoy. I haven't heard of many people doing science moving into medicine, but yes still possible.

Not sure about your final question so maybe you can ring up the university for that :)
All the best of luck for your final exams

BSc and the advanced stream are the same in the first year
the exact same
BUT
the advanced stream makes it easier for med entry
you can transfer from any degree into med so it doesn't matter whether you do the reg stream, but the adv stream makes it easier.
