if you want to become a stockbroker, you should major in economics and finance. This could be done with a commerce degree too. Some say it'll look better if you did it under a commerce degree.

I do bachelor of economics, but im only 1st year. You'll have to do core subjects like accounting, QMA (calculus), QMB(statistics), micro and macro. Some are pretty boring imo, but after 1st year you get to specialise in what you want to do in your majors.

I dont know what B Eco is like at other uni's, but on the social side ive met some great people, and sum fucks.
Go to the unsw handbook at the uni website, it'll help u out more.

no you dont. unsw accepted people who got UAI's of 88 due to good performances in certain subjects. The entry system is changing at unsw. Apparently now there is bonus uai points for certain subjects. People have talked about it somewhere in the unsw forum.

im majoring in economics and marketing. i know they are totally unrelated but they are my top two interests..

i would think economics and finance are the best majors to become a stockbroker...but i think you should ask other peoples opinions. Did you ask at uni open days?

I dont know wtf econometric majors do

ok well if u do B commerce or B Eco at unsw, be prepared to walk up and down a hill which might be tiring, however you will only do 12-14 hours max of uni a week which is the best :D

Lots of international students doing commerce...

Lol. Econometrics degree (to my knowledge) is essentially QMA/QMB integrated with Economics. ALthough, that is just the most basic definition. ,, Economics with maths. :p

I do finance. I do say it'd be helpful if u wanted to become a Stockbroker. The economy isn't the only thing you'll have to worry about if being a stock broker. You have to learn about the basics of the sharemarket, all the differnet types of commodities (financial) that are avaiable and et cetera.
All avaiable to learn in Finance. :]

Also chris, what do you mean we can't use the law library anymore? I always use the law lib. :/

to be honest you dont really have to study com/econ degree to be a stockbroker
just stick whatever u interested in

there are so many high pay traders who dont actually study com/econ but eng

but if u want to become professionals such as cfa ca actuaries dr etc related degree will be very helpful though

Not to mention micro and macro 2 are quite difficult (especially compared to micro and macro 1)

I'm doing Accounting and Finance major and the finance part is more interesting I reckon! For us there are three core subjects (accounting, micro/macro, qma/qmb), and one elective (finance). Perhaps check out the websites of the School of Economics for more info.

It doesn't matter if we cant use the Law library, we got the Main Library right next to our Commerce Courtyard!

has anyone ever been to level 8 or 9 of the library? i heard they are restricted?!? hehe i've always wondered what they keep in there...

check the unsw handbook, its the best indication of what subjects you will be doing throughout your degree.

its not that boring like i first made it out to be, its actually pretty easy if u keep up to date with work
