So I'm curious as to how much of a role school ranking plays?

English Standard 1st
2u Mathematics 1st
Physics 1st
Chemistry 1st
Biology 2nd/3rd (not sure which one, lol)

At a high ranking school obviously this would get a decent ATAR but hypothetically what would be the difference in ATAR between a top 100 school and a 550+ school?

Hypothetically, at a top 100 school, those ranks could mean you beat a fair amount of capable students, hence a better ATAR estimate.

At a 550+ school, the assumption is lower in that you may have beaten some good students or you're the only one doing work there so an ATAR estimate would tend to be lower.

Obviously it all comes down to how well you do in the externals as well.

Oh okay, so say if in the above situation two people get the same mark in externals of 82 all around, what would predicted atars be?
or is it not possible to figure that out?

Thanks for the reply.

By the two people do you mean the 100+ ranked school kid and the 550+ ranked school kid?

Yeah thats what I mean, basically how much effect does school ranking have on equally scoring students.

If two students score EXACTLY the same in externals and have same ranks, school ranking effect is minimal.

Please note school ranking has no direct influence on the calculation of the ATAR.

Yeah you would get the same ATAR or close to it.

If your in a lower ranked school it's just assumed that your 82% may only be worth 70% in a higher ranked school. But, if you did get the same marks in externals, it won't mean much or anything at all really.

it depends,

schools ranked in the 550+ may only have a single 1 band 6 in the entire cohort (hence why the distinguished achievers percentage is like <0.2)
whereas a school ranked in 100+ have a greater proportion of students with band 6s

but obviously if you work hard (which you have) you'll pull the school rank up :D
