Hi, i got an award on graduation night for 2nd place general math, but on my report is says "cumulative course rank 1/83"

These are the emails i firstly sent:

"Hi sir !

On my report it says "cumulative course rank: 1/83"

But i got an award for 2nd place on graduation night ?

What rank am i really :S is it 1st or 2nd ?

Numbers on my report are:
95/100 for trial mark
71/100 for course average
1/83 cumulative rank in course"

And this is the reply i got from the math coordinator

Hi ******,

It is correct on the report and the award.

When your cumulative mark is rounded off to the nearest whole number you are equal first overall (hence your rank of 1/83 cumulative rank in course) but when the cumulative marks are taken to one decimal place (as is required for the awards) you are actually ranked second.

So, in summary:

Your cumulative rank in course is equal first but your rank for an award was second (by decimal places).

Hope this clarifies things.

So... am i ranked first or not ? i.e.
- do i get the highest external mark in the HSC as my mark or
- does the highest decimal point person get that,
- or do we both get the highest external mark as our mark

Thank you (sorry for long response)

For the purposes of HSC, you are equal first. This means your external HSC mark and the other person's external mark are averaged (or, if a lower rank scores higher, you receive theirs). You were second purely for the purposes of your internal school awards. That means nothing (apart from an award).
