Steps that are involved in the production of a polypeptide:

1)RNA polymerase (enzyme) unwinds the DNA double helix structure at the end. Only one strand is used for coding. This is the non-coding strand. The other strand is called the coding strand

2)Transcription. The enzyme builds a molecule of mRNA which then transcribes to the DNA non-coding strand. Information read off the DNA is in codons (in triplets)
a.The sequence of mRNA as the same coding strand, except it has U instead of T (uracil and thymine)
b.As the molecule code is formed, it moves away from the DNA. When the enzyme (polymerase) reaches the terminator site, transcription stops

3)mRNA moves out of nucleus into cytoplasm encountering ribosomes

4)Translation. Ribosomes move along mRNA molecule. As they do, tRNA temporarily attaches to the mRNA anti-codons

5)tRNA breaks off after this process, leaving a chain of amino acids -> polypeptide
a.Because of the mRNA length, many ribosomes can attach to it
creating more polypeptides (amino acids)

6)Polypeptide folded into correct shape, forming protein
