I've looked everywhere but I still don't understand.

Say if I'm coming 5th in a subject at my school. Does this mean no matter how well I go in the external exam, I can only get the 5th best combined (like, internal and external, I've forgotten the name?) mark. Because in this subject I'm only 5th, but my teacher believes only me and another girl are likely to receive band sixes in the external. How will this effect my mark then?

Sorry, I'm so confused by this system...

No it does not mean that you will get 5th however it does mean if you get higher then 5th you may get pulled down slightly as you will get half your mark and half the person who comes 5th in the exam.
