Tutors only provide two things - methods for solving problems, and a time period during which you can practice doing it.

The first can be provided by your teacher. The latter can be provided by yourself.

You can do it if you want to.

well with maths ALL u can do is practice papers over and over and over and over again.. true the HSC wont differ that much there are only certain types of questions that they can ask...

well i would have died if i failed as i do 3u the highest at my school was only 90% i think...

Well i got 78%, tied 2nd, top was 88%, it was a damn hard 2u test.

i got 50% in 3U, got kicked by all of the 4U students, damnit.

i dont know if it was the Catholic papers, but they were pretty hard tests...

A tutor is good as he can address the specific problems you are having...........class teacher can't really do that

But for 2 unit you really don't need one as its all mainly bookwork

bookwork, until u get up to around Question 9 and 10 i'd say

and dont forget we do 3U, so we automatically say 2U is easy (because it is for us), but the 2U ppl might think otherwise

fair point......but the vast majority of 2 unit is just knowing the formulas, a tutor can't teach you a formula, only the individual can learn it

a tutor will help u with what u urself are having problems with but a tutor is pointless unless u are prepared to go home and do quite a bit of work yourself. Theres too many ppl that think that by having a tutor they will do well, but what they forget is that unless u do that extra work at home your gunna screw up big time

yeah thats true
i was thinkin that, if u rely on a tutor too much, u get too "dependant"...so yeah u gotta put in the extra work at home, rather than jus running to ur tutor with every problem u have

but wouldnt it be normal to run to your tutor for problems...
i mean... the more hard problems youve seen thats bee entirely worked out
youll at least have some sort of vague idea as what youll be doing in a question asked in a similar way

You can't run to your tutor for problems in the middle of the HSC exam.

Most people don't have the self-discipline to ceaselessly examine and attack a question until they divine a solution, meaning that they'll only put in a half-hearted effort knowing that they can ask their tutor at the next available opportunity. Those that do have the required self-discipline don't need a tutor in the first place.
