I'd like Eastwood to win Director again just for the mass suicide of the die hard Scorsese fans.

Good to see Dreamgirls get shut out of the major awards, if ever a film looks like an overhyped piece of shit.

a tie can happen but its very rare.
Especially now with the larger numbers of Academy voters. The last tie would've been Streisand/Hepburn in 1968, yeah? Or have I forgotten one? There's only been two in Academy history, I think I heard?

Oh I know she's cute and the film was magical, but did you see Rinko Kukichi in Babel? It was one of my favourite performances ever, and I'm not exagerating at all.

And Jennifer Hudson is so well liked that I'm pretty sure she'll still win, even though I saw Babel last night and my! that deaf mute can ACT!

They should have a "best performance in a scene" award, and give it to JHud for "And I'm telling you I'm Not Going".

Then everyone's happy.

BTW I genuinely thought the girl from whale rider should have won Best actress a couple of years ago. That broke my heart. :(

I think because I have done some acting I can look at a pretty understated performance and notice how moving it is, simply because nearly everyone in films overacts, it just seems like the norm now.

What am I nattering about? I need sleep.

I haven't seen Babel yet, unfortunately. :(

I agree that Jennifer Hudson will probably win, if only for the whole "rags to riches" aspect of her being a runner up on a TV show who has now surpassed all expectations that people had.

I dislike the way all the oscar nominations are largely based on the subject matter and not just the quality of the movie. For example, most award winners are based on serious subject matters - A brilliant comedy will never win best picture but a dramatic movie about something sad will have a good shot at it. I mean, why are different forms of motion picture valued differently?

Yeah but if "Listen" wins that fame-whore Beyonce will get an OSCARRRR! Or if not an oscar then the credit for one, and that CANT HAPPEN.

Besides, "I love you I do" is so boppy and Supremes-y.

And about that comedy thing...I sort of agree but then again usually out of ALL the films of a year, the best one is not likely to be a comedy. It sort of makes sense, I mean there are heaps of fantastic comedies, but what for instance do you think should win this year?

Little Miss Sunshine was one of MY favourite films this year but The Departed was an almost flawless film which deserves to win more.

If Babel wins, it'll be just like Crash last year. I still can't believe that piece of trash won BEST PICTURE. Ughh.

Oh and Zoe, Babel isn't all that good, but Rinko's performance is worth the price of a ticket/rental.

And I genuinely think Jennifer Hudson is a fantastic actor. She kept up the intensity, even when she broke into song out of nowhere. I see what you're saying but I don't think it is quite rags to riches in this case.

Also, I think I love Jennifer so much because I dislike Beyonce so intensely.

As if not appreciate 'Click' as a subtle metaphor for the post 9/11 troubled times we live in.
