Hey
I am having difficulty in answering the 2007 HSC question
“Society moves ahead and the law limps behind”
Discuss this statement in relation to continuity and change in the law as it applies to family members.

can anyone help on what exactly to say?
much appreciated.

Same-sex couples. Adoption. Same-sex marriage. IVF. (There is so much to say about them <3)

You may also disagree with that statment to an extent, just thought I'd point out. E.g. De Facto relationships have almost exactly the same legal recognition as marriages today. The law doesn't limp behind because they have been legally recognised as early as...during WWI. (Sorry, I can't remember the exact date or legislation - see MacMillan textbook for details).

Mainly you would discuss legal recognition of alternative family arrangments and how that affects the growing recognition of them in society. (e.g. single mothers)

Oh and with 'non'-alternative families...marriage - divorce and the no fault divorce concept which took until 1975 to establish? (Family Law Act)
