according to your answers pc i should have 59% although i didnt give myself any marks for working out if the answers were wrong, so i think i might get around 63/4% which im happy with :D

fro 25ii., i worked out that there would be a 3/5 chance to win $4, which would mean
5 X 12 = 60, so 3 X 12 = 36. 36 X $4 = $144. but to lose $8 = 1/5 chance, 1 X 12 = 12.
$8 X 12 = $96, 144 - 96 = $ 48 so she won $48 in total.

For 25iii. i figured that now she had
to win 3/6 = 30 X $4 = 120
to lose 1/6 = 10 X $8 = 80.
$120 - $80 = $40 so she lost $8, therefore "financial expectation" WILL change, ie. dont agree.

Hope that helps,.

DAMN THAT JANE AUSTEN!!!!

umm..

25 c ii) - (0.2 x 4) + (0.2x4) +(0.2x4) + (0.2x0) + (0.2 x -8)

= 0.8 ( 80c ) financial expectation :)

c iii) (1/6 x 4) + (1/6 x 4) + (1/6x4) + 1/6x0) + (1/6x -8) + (1/6x0)

= 2/3 ( 67c )

So Yes there is a change in financial expectaion. 13c worth. :) that is the correct method.

scaled marks change depending on what you get.. in general maths if you want your RAW mark to go up after scaling.. it will need to be in the 90s somewhere i think..

and sorry your wrong. im sure my answer is right.. and this threads answers agree with me.

I checked my working for that question from my notes and textbook, and it was certainly the right method, plus I also got 80c and 67c which seems to be the general consensus...

I really don't understand this scaling at all, butfrom that statement it looks like it's impossible to get a band 6... That doesn't make sense to me... Can someone explain it?

im not sure any of us know how it all works.
but i swear i read somewhere that people got 100 in general maths last year?
there are no caps on marks, and if you get a very high mark in the top 2 percent say, i dont see why they should scale that down to 89...

but when you say scaling, are we talking about scaling towards UAI , or scaling towards your exam and HSC mark???

i meant my actual hsc mark for gen maths. i think the 100% to 89% thing sounds stupid.
goign back one sec to the financial expectation thing. so you think that there only asking for the one game financial expectation or robyns game of 60? the question is a bit vague

yeh that actual hsc mark, i dont believe they can do that.. my maths teacher told me if my marks were in the mid 90s that they would stay that way. so im guna believe him for my own sanity :)

and that question, one game or 60.. makes no difference either way her financial expectation will stay the same.

if u work it out /60 games.. it will just be the same.

(1/5x4) + (1/5x4) + (1/5+4) + (1/5x0) + (1/5x-8) = 0.8

1/5 x 60 = 12/60

(12/60x4) + ( 12/60x4) + (12/60x4) + (12/60x0) + (12/60x -8) = 0.8 aswell :)

i think thats what you were getting at.. i hope so, cos that took far too long to write
