Do you think it is possible to gain entry for year 9 if your supporting documents aren't amazing, but you do really well on the Edutest?
absolutely, when my students talked with the principal, they mention reports being a key factor. then extra curricular. that being said, i think you should have a fair amount of extracurricular and at least 1 external or internal academic achievement to maximise your chances. good luck, especially entry into year 9, is the biggest opportunity amongst all other grades.

I actually do debating at school but I haven't participated in any comps but there is proof that I'm part of it
debating can do you well, but from my experience, debating is something common amongst all applicants, because their principal (former) said many kids came with same extra curriculars, and different ones appealed to them more, of course after looking thoroughly through their reports and edutest. not to mention that ruse is strong in debating, so theyd usually look for people who are strong in other assets that they're weak in or not so strong. but i would still recommend you continue debating and do debating competitions, because after all they won't take away from your cv, they'll only enhance it 👍

yes i agree with their writing competition. their writing competition was really bad, I personally am not sour about not getting in, but even top tier students found it not very useful, so yeah the writing competition is a waste of money. the harvard case comp is worth it because you're in teams, and you could end up with a very experienced person, and as a team of 4 you work together. even so, the experience is fun, you get a certificate and thats it, considering its under a pretty large harvard company. their harvard case comp is completely diff from their harvard writing comp. you should give it a go if you want to. its $15usd with the promo code.

one of my edutest students did the harvard case comp, and it got mentioned in the interview, like they were impressed because it's quite distinguishable, so that was why the website was recommended. harvard writing comp winner would look good too, but when I used it in my application, it didn't carry at all, with my participation. only my case comp worked for their panel selection

there's no "minimum" amount, because it matters about the level of your achivement. you could be getting distinction for 100 certificates, but it wont' be as good as 3 "high distinction/gold medal" certificates. if your performance will be average, i would say do around 3-4 in a year, so considering its half of the current year and a full last year that they ask in the application - do around 5-6 comps/extracurriculars. but then again its subjective, there are people who had minimal certificates and still got in

So if I did really well in edutest (like possibly more than 3 superiors) and had average reports and extracurriculars would I have a good chance if getting in?

What’s your definition of like average reports? If you’re saying B’s, they don’t like that. If it’s one B and rest are A’s that fine. If you get a B or lower especially on one of the core subjects (sci, Eng, maths) they’re deterred from accepting you. But if you’re applying for next year, if you managed to improve your reports for the end of this year and sem 2 next year, to near all A’s then it doesn’t matter.

yes that’s fine. As long as your most recent report shows all As in primary subjects and rarely any bs overall. I’m pretty sure they prioritise the most recent report so dw

I second this lol, some teachers at ruse were talking about this competition and how they really wanted people from their own school to participate in it, even though it’s not school run, so I’m assuming if you do do this an extra curricular, your cv would look distinguishable.? or like enhanced lol

Hey everyone! Does any1 know whether Hurlstone prioritises the hast results more or reports (alongside extracurriculars)?
I got into hurlstone (starting from next year). I'm not sure but its your HAST results first as thats what determines your interview chances. Then based on your teacher comments, attendance and reports, they'll give you either an offer or waiting list.

This year I did choir, debating, zonta club, amc, bharatnatyam, art club, swimming, gardening club. So next year I think I'll do more of the same extrac curriculars and I'll add maybe around 5 to 6 more comps to my portfolio. Also do capa comps count or do they like make a difference?
