Hi everyone, has anyone here completed the Girrawheen interview before? I’ve just received my results and found out I’ve been placed. Could you share what the interview experience was like?

I have, may I ask for what year you are applying for and what school you are currently in?

I am in Year 9 applying for Year 10. My school is ranked ~250.
Okay that’s actually pretty good. Usually selective schools don’t care about your school’s ranking unless the school you’re applying for is something prestigious like James ruse. Year 10 has a lot more open positions so I assume they accept around 50 kids for interviews and roughly 30 get in. They could ask questions like “Why do you think you belong here” or “How do you follow our school’s beliefs”. Just something like that. Practice with a friend and try to gain that confidence. Also, if you don’t mind me asking, what were your overall hast results?

Well, it's not really an interview, all the applicants are placed together and gave a quick run down abt the school. After that there are like 5 teachers (including principle), who will basically tell u what electives u got based on your selections.

Depending on the teacher, some may ask you about your report or etc, and others don't really care and hand you the enrollment form and stuff like that.

SO basically u got in, nothing to worry abt, some teachers may check ur report and ask like a few questions but its entirely up to them, just dont say anything stupid.

Good job in getting in mate

So all the kids who are attending, got into girra, but once u come here u better uphold the girra culture

Wait, if I don’t make it imma try out again in y10 but like do they make a new class for all the transfers in y10 and THEY choose your electives or do you get to? Also would u still be able to try out for accelerated courses

Depends on my hast.. if I get top 25% or better I’m gonna appeal to Sydney tech cause I got rejected for choosing it as a 3rd pref and they give bias to people who select it first (allegedly)
dude same, but in my case, hurlstone, i chose them 2nd, but a kid in my class who chose it first pref ACTUALLY GOT OFFER! like full offer, and i asked him about his hast results, this dude got the same results as me, but he also got pretty avg in maths, and flunked abstract, so like worse than me in those two, but i heard back in like july when applying that hurlstone has like very few seats for yr 9 entry allegedly like 1-2, so i thought i was better of sydney tech as 1st choice, but somehow that kid with my results got fully in, and i havent got anything back from hurlstone yet tho, ill just wait until term 4 then, ur completely right about school preference bias... its so cooked

Does anyone know if there are any selective high schools (HAST or Edutest) that open up a
whole class for year 9, like how Penrith and Girraween open up like 20 spots but for year 10? I'm thinking of trying out for a school with more spots next year as I didn't get in this year...

The only ones I’m aware of are normanhurst, Sydney boys and James ruse

I’m not sure about Baulkho but for Ruse on their website for entry into years 8-11, They have a link to a sheet where it provides information about seats available for each year and it says 30 students for year 9, and in all years it’s been 30 student transfers in year 9

Anyone know if it's a good idea to apply for girraween, Penrith or baulkham hills for yr 9 entry or are the chances low?
