i highly doubt UAI had much to do with it - i just got the letter, and my UAI was 99.75 - which wouldn't put me in the top 500 students in australia, im guessing... but i did get 94 or above in 10 units...so maybe theres a clue? my only other guess is that it may be done on a regional basis?

didnt you get the Guide to Legal Citation for free? we all got given them in o-week....

well i dont go to sydney uni, but for the past few years the UAI cutoff has been 99.6 (although this year it was 99.55)...for other unis a general guide is low 90s and above - note there is relatively high variation in cutoff scores between unis, so it really depends on where you want to go...

sometime in the middle of the year, your school should give you a UAC guide book, and around the same time, a VTAC one should be available at newsagents (or so im told)...the process of applying in each state is virtually identical. you just need to get your hands on a VTAC book and from there...

so who else out there is off to melbourne uni??? post your course and college youre in (if youre in one, that is) for me, its Arts/Laws, and im at St Hildas College

I ended up turning down the NUS. I got a scholarship to one of the Colleges at melbourne uni (which was always my preferred option)...which was about the same value as the region scholarship.... while the $50,000 would have been nice, in the end, my parents "didnt want to punish me for doing...

in victoria, ive heard they give them to the kids that got really high rankings in an individual subject...does that help you?

omg omg... i just got my scholarship upgraded from a region one to a National Undergraduate scholarship!!!!!!! looks like im coming to canberra :)

hahaha...yes, i did. i already had my offer from ANU cos i got a region scholarship. and melbourne offers are already out.

ived been offered Arts/Law (like half the rest of ANU), and a place at Ursies. might go arts/law at melbourne uni though. we'll see what happens in the next couple of days.

yinyin, i was being sarcastic about the ten seconds of fame thing...mainly because theres over 800 kids getting this award - its hardly an exclusive little club, or something like that. theres no dinner afterward but apparently we get afternoon tea.

well, according to the letter, you go to sydney, to a ceremony at a convention centre in darling harbour, and get your ten seconds of fame briefly shaking morris iemma's hand and getting a trophy. no certificate as far as i can tell. its on the 13th of feb

i was almost looking forward to it until i found out its on the first day of O week at ANU. that sucks
