hi everyone,
as an year 11 going into year 12, does anyone have any useful advice/things they wish they knew or did in year 12?
Would your year 11 marks change a heap considering that most people start locking in? I think everyone is super scared of the fact that everyone is going to start locking in through year 12 especially at a selective high school so i guess the biggest concern is how to like stay ahead
Any advice on how to do as well as you can would be super helpful.
thank you

For science subject, especially biology and Phsyics, know the syllabus so well that when you look at a question you immediately know which dotpoint it is. The syllabus is really your best friend.

Don‘t take too much pressure and risk burnout too early. I know I personally locked in too hard in the first term and my marks show the stress I felt because of that. Take everything slowly and be organised + resourceful.

Collect a bunch of resources and save them on notability or print them out if that’s what you prefer. When you know you have questions available easily to you, it saves you from procrastination.

For in school exams, know exactly what your teachers want, since most of the time it’s quite different to hsc. Follow what they want even if it’s the most outlandish thing.

Read your English text in the holidays and enjoy them. Watch a movie or play of the text if available. Then in class it will make more sense what the teacher is talking about. Submit essay drafts earlier than everyone else, cause your teacher will most likely be able to give you more feedback that way.

Share notes with your friends and the nerds of your class. Although ranks are important, your cohorts results in the final hsc exam can really make or break it.

Nah I’m just mentally preparing myself just in case I get disappointed so that I don’t destroy my mental health again. I’m trying to reassure myself. I’m just going in with no expectations and whatever happens happens

1. Don't get caught up on rank. It's much better just to focus on doing the very best that you can do, plus it will help in reducing stress (or at least some of it)
2. Cortisol (the main stress hormone) weakens your immune system, which is probalbly why some people tend to feel sick around peak assessment/exam periods. Find ways to manage stress before it becomes catastrophic.
3. NEVER, EVER, EVER stop studying becuase you got a 'cooked' assessment mark. There is always room for improvement.
4. Whilst cliche, take appreciation for the present. I was excited to leave school, but then on graduation, I couldn't stop crying. Take something out of every day. This is the last year where you have the safety of a predetermined structure.
5. At some point, you need to stop searching for motivation and instead, develop discipline. It's hard, but true.
6. HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
7. Try hard to develop good relationships with your teachers; they will be your best support next year.
8. Know that you are not alone. 70 odd thousand kids will be going through the same thing as you.
9. If you want to sit the UCAT, treat it like a subject AND START EARLY.
10. Again, ENJOY THIS UPCOMING YEAR.
11. Be kind to yourself.
12. AS LONG AS YOU KNOW YOU TRIED YOUR BEST, NO FINAL MARK/ATAR WILL EVER DIMINISH OR DENY YOUR EFFORT.
