i try hard for my subjects yet im NEVER first (actually only once for bio but it wasnt reports only assessment task) and i really really want to crack the code
dont tell me: study all day šŸ¤“ bc i can guarantee you most duxes probably dont study 10hrs+ every single day (probably not even close to that either)

i need not hacks or advice but life changing information, like a hack code
i need to know how to come first in at least 1 subject

is it constant revision? constant practice? getting ahead of the content (without tutoring)? what is it that i should be looking to do

currently i dont have a study schedule and just do whatevers on my to do list which somewhat works so thats fine but it isnt good enough
theres specifically this girl in 3 of my subjects and shes ALWAYS top and is 1st in all her other reports and i really want to beat her (we both came equally first in bio) like is it bc shes naturally smarter or is she just hard working? idk but i do know that i really want to beat her omgggg (the only competition i have btw)

anyways, guys plz i like really need to know secrets to coming first!! (im at a 300-something ranked school )

Not gonna lie, this question is so general that it is impossible to give a useful response. Asking 'how do I get dux' is like asking 'how do I become a millionaire'. There are so many different pathways and techniques of getting there that you need personalised advice, not general advice that anyone can give. I think instead of focusing on the macro, such as one-size-fits-all study advice, focus on the micro. Focus on specific facets of each of your subjects, such as the historiographical interpretation of the Tudor Myth in King Richard III for English, or how the corporate tax rate affects worker productivity for Economics. So what I'm saying is there's plenty of books out there for generalised study advice, but there's much less advice out there on your specific shortcomings when it comes to each subject. Try to seek as much personalised feedback as possible, preferably from tutors or teachers, to truly improve.

If I were to give generalised advice though, it would just be to follow a schedule and to do consistent exam-style practice.

i came first in 2 subjects this year in a top 30 school - bio & hisext. since u don't do hisext, i'll just tell you about bio.
in year 11 i was ALWAYS average in bio and it sucked. in year 12, what i did was write notes off the textbook and literally memorise word for word, write notes of the excel hsc bio book and do the same, and spam practice papers. in hsc bio, they reward you for the amount of detail you can fit in the answers, so the first two tips help with that. practice papers are also equally important because you will notice a lot of patterns in the type of questions they ask and the answers they expect - if they have a good answer, literally memorise it.
i learned the importance of past papers the hard way - i was rocking term 1 - 3 with 95+ in every bio exam, missing only one or two marks occasionally, BUT in trials i got overconfident so i did like 2 past papers rip. obviously i underperformed, but i retained first rank since T1-T3 was good. so its not just having the knowledge that's important, you HAVE to apply it to practice questions. hope this helps:)

i mean there’s not really a cheat code. u just gotta study a lot effectively (whatever works for u the best) and try to stay ahead and master the content. i did get dux but unfortunately did study for like 7 hours ish a day running up to the hsc (idr the exact number now. but something like that), and probably at least 2-3 in the evening on school days. i think if u manage ur time well though, u can easily do less (no way i consistently study for 7 hours a day in uni now unless if its some rare occasion, but i generally get better marks than in high school; however thats a different school environment and level of experience so its mostly irrelevant)

ig i can talk specifically about math as it’s what i study now, and was my best performing subject in hsc. really u just have to do all the textbook questions, then spam out past papers at hsc level. i remember in year 11 i did almost all the prelim adv papers on thsc and basically all the questions on our prelim were the same lol. my advice is mainly just to expose yourself to as many problems as possible, since you’ll begin to collect a bag of tricks as to how to proceed with problems.
at a high school level, there’s a relatively small number of questions they could possibly ask you about, especially in the earlier question numbers. so u should ideally be able to crunch out all of the earlier questions (q11,q12,q13 or whatever it is now) in a short amount of time. imo, it doesn’t take too long to get to that level, as long as when you make mistakes in those questions, u make sure u don’t make them again. then after that, u can focus ur efforts on the later questions, so ideally u can have the majority of ur time on the harder questions on the exam.
i also stayed consistently ahead with content, at least one textbook chapter from what we do in class. that sort of frees up ur time as well, bc then u can not worry about learning the weeks content as heavily, and can then focus ur efforts on past papers/ getting ahead further depending on when exams are.
i also didn’t really have a study schedule (except leading up to the hsc/final exams) and just tried to do the most i could every day, sometimes i’d set a goal of doing a particular past papers or textbook chapter in the morning or the night before, but that was about it
good luck : )

see i dont want that
I promise you, you can still have a social life, and achieve what you want. I balanced work (social), sport training (5x Week - social), a regular social life with friends, all while coming 1st in my subjects and duxing.

Giving up stuff and 'just studying' is gonna do much much much more harm than good. U need balance.

this is true. i think though, u also have to put into perspective that you want to be ā€œthe bestā€ at something; thats never easy and will require a lot of effort. but also very important to have some level of balance, otherwise you’ll just burn out and give up
