Hi, I'm currently taking 13 units for year 11 (adv english, 3u math, chemistry, biology, legal studies, economics) and after seeing my prelim results I'm considering dropping to 10 units for year 12. I know for sure I'll be dropping economics due to my performance + I genuinely do not care for it, which would leave me with 11u in year 12. Most people I've asked have said it's best to stay with 11+ units so I'll have something to fall back on if I perform super badly in something.

My biggest concern is in maths, because this year I've struggled to keep up with workload and I have a poor understanding on some concepts, which really showed in my prelims and term 2 exams. I barely scraped a pass for extension and my advanced mark was disappointing too. I don't know if I should drop extension and just focus on advanced, because dropping ext would also mean I'd be switching classes to a different teacher, which would be favourable as I hate my current teacher's way of running the classroom.

Would it be advisable to drop to 10 units next year? Should I continue with 11u for a term to see how I hold up? I'm unsure if the risk of having no backup units outweighs the pros of having more time to balance out my subjects. I would appreciate any advice, thank you :)

Drop eco, keep the others.
Give them each some time, as in focus on them. You have a year to revise, fix gaps in knowledge, yk the deal.
If ur current math teacher's useless, (and its not you being the only one who thinks ur teacher sucks) drop ext.
It's not worth it.

Verdict - Drop eco, its not as high scaling as the others.

I wouldn't say my math teacher's completely useless, it's moreso how her expectations for homework completions are through the roof, which leads to students spending classtime rushing through hw and not paying attention to the content being taught. I've spoken to some classmates who experience the same thing though that might be a me problem. I would ask to be moved classes but my teacher just so happens to be the head teacher of the math faculty so that's kinda not an option 😭. Thank you for your help though, I think I'll stick with 11u at least for next term and just lock in during the upcoming holidays.

oh my days! i know ive said this a couple times somewhere online but rq ramble, bro how is ur situation so similar to mine regarding 3u math. My math teacher is also the head teacher (for now at least) and the homework expectation is so frickin crazy. Like last term I spent so much time on completing the homework everyday, so much so that I didn't have time to do any of my other subject's hw

Hahah no way 😭 It's gotta be a thing between head teachers I swear. My friends from other classes are breezing through the homework the day it's assigned while I'm a good 5 lessons behind. And the thing is, my class' average for prelims is ~5 marks lower than the cohort average, so ig that's saying something 💔
