Late to the party, I actually disagree with this assessment - the statement "became a victim of a situation that he supported", if it can be applied to Kirk, then it can be applied to Gazans supporting Hamas. Not to derail the thread. Both could be argued as causation vs correlation fallacy.

The general consensus from reading other comments, is that the existence of gun control would make no difference to the level of violence in the US. (One could even argue that is why some commentators are in favour, of the 2nd amendment because it is that bad that necessitates the right for one to defend oneself).
