hi there this is my first time coming across this place and currently just trying to prepare an example extended response to help me in the test for my preliminary I got in 6 days 😭😭anyway sorry i just realised I was yapping lol

so i was just wondering if there are any techniques that anyone can just see using the quote

"which of you shall we say doth love us most,” which is said by Lear in Act 1 and I understand the concepts and themes with this quote and can see how it fits into my essay but my teacher said I should be aiming for 12 techniques for the response that coincide with the quotes and so any help in like what literary technique I can use here to tick that box would be great.

thank you for any help lads

I could definately try to use symbolism as a last resort if I dont find anything however I feel I can hopefully find a more specific technique because ive been told its too basic for me to use as an advanced student so idk

thank you for the source tho ill definitely have a look through and see how I can use it! however if im being so fr, I never learnt how to use stuff like ChatGPT and I feel its a more productive use of my time actually to study rather than learn how to cheat ya know?

also thank you for the reply especially one so quick

yeah no i wouldn't use chatgpt
have you tried litcharts or sparknotes? not sure if they would be helpful, but it's worth a shot?

Do you really need twelve techniques? I feel like that's a bit over the top 🤔 but do what your teacher says, lol

do you need 12 techniques for that one quote, or one technique each for 12 quotes or something like that? I'm a little confused lol...
So you need quotes and techniques for a theme, using that given quote as a basis? does that sound about right?

Nah 12 techniques for 1 quote is insane. I think they mean like 12 techniques altogether in the whole essay for multiple quotes

Ok I want to rant about ai but literally there’s no reason why anyone should be afraid of it or not wanna use it cause like as long as u don’t get it to do all ur work for u it’s not cheating. It’s basically just like an online tutor/ a search engine. And also one day our whole world is gonna revolve around ai like how our whole world revolves around the internet so are u gonna just avoid it forever. Like imagine boycotting the internet. And also like back a long time ago when the internet came out like isn’t that also kinda like cheating for them back then cause instead of searching for stuff in books u could just type in a few words and things would come up. So same thing with chat GPT. Like now it may seem like cheating but really if u think of it the same way as google it really isn’t ykwim.

the only argument against ai is sustainability but even then if ur all about sustainability then u should prob start driving EV’s if u don’t already, using solar power and boycotting every place that doesn’t use sustainable resources

yea so basically ive been told to draft an example extended response for a past paper preliminary and ive been told to aim for 12 techniques across the essay i have from memory like 10 quotes and so just making sure each of the quotes im using corresponding techniques to like meet the criteria i suppose is what my teacher is wanting

I get where you are coming from, but I personally dont like using ai and while others can use it for sure whatever. I personally like to do my own work from my head also I'm not like judging you for suggesting to use chatgpt everyone has their own methods of doing things and it's not my place to judge you. I just want to make that clear because i feel like you might have felt that way sorry about that

No it’s ok. I guess some people enjoy the productive struggle and the satisfaction of figuring things out urself. But lowkey I guess I was kinda projecting my lack of patience cause props to u for surviving without ai cause I could not deal with the pain of having to figure out everything myself when I could just use ai to figure it out in 2 mins. But yeah I’d rather get the same or better results with less time imo cause I’m lazy and impatient and I just want to save time

if you run out of techniques, does it come from a monologue/aside/dialogue? referencing it as one of these dramatic forms often actually elevates an essay, especially if you acknowledge it in tandem with another quote
also the collective pronouns of "we" and "us" are a nice technique if it relates to your themes, you can talk about the implied universality of a theme, or the suppression of an individual sensation due to the collective

sorry I can't help further I don't know the text

hmmm yeah I think if king Lear said that quote I think he was addressing it to the sisters? So like it can add to the tension between Cordelia and the others or smth and how they’re trying to fight for most of the kingdom and like the most flattery from Lear . ( idk lowkey kinda forgot)

This is probably not quite right and also sorry if this is super rude 😭 😭 i just wanted to respond
It’s basically just like an online tutor/ a search engine.
it sort of is, but it sort of isn't... essentially what Large Language Models like chatGPT are doing is predicting the next word in the sentence based on what it has learnt from its training (i.e the internet) and what it thinks you want to know. It doesn't actually know what it's writing, which is why it is extremely dangerous to use as your only source of info: you may have heard of AI hallucinations. I had first-hand experience of this the other day.
I was attempting to get Copilot to tell me what a certain character in a screenshot was in unicode (dw that bits not important), but multiple times it gave me a completely wrong answer, and delivered it to me extremely confidently. If I was in a situation where I wasn't able to double check it, or couldn't be bothered to double check it, I would have used the wrong character. I only knew it was wrong because I already knew what I was looking for... What i'm trying to say is that if you use it too heavily, or don't double check what it says, you might get the complete wrong answer. :(
And also one day our whole world is gonna revolve around ai like how our whole world revolves around the internet so are u gonna just avoid it forever. Like imagine boycotting the internet.
I guess the thing to keep in mind is that we're still in the earliest stages of AI... so while yeah, in the future, the whole world will probably revolve around AI, it's a pretty safe assumption that it won't be the same form that we have now. Without going too deep (also cuz I don't know a lot about it xD), we have what's called (at least in the SE syllabus) Narrow AI, where basically it can do whatever we train it to do. Take chess, for example. But the next step is General AI, where it is able to "perform any intellectual task a human can do. "; and after that, Superintelligent AI (think every movie where AI takes over the world). But we haven't passed Narrow AI yet, and so it's probably not the end of the world if you don't use AI right now 🤷‍♀️

I can't find the statistics to be completely honest, but using AI isn't necessary, and supposedly it uses 15 times the energy of a google search...
To address the rest of your statement, firstly, yes, start driving an EV... it's just better 😭 and yes, start using solar, but "boycotting every place ..." is definetly an exaggeration lol... like maybe you just don't use chatGPT when you could just google it or ask your teacher?

please don't take this the wrong way idk if this is mean or not 😭 I'm SO tired 😭
uh idk how to end this

Fair enough. But if ur gonna use ai one day u may as well get used to it now like why wait. I get the hallucinations so that’s why I wouldn’t rely on it solely but it doesn’t mean u can’t use it for help. As long as if anything looks sus then u don’t have to use that part.
