What do you benefit from doing MX2 in terms of future pathways/careers etc

Benefit is quite limited. There are basically no university that have recommended knowledge MX2 and any course that do you can ignore those requirements.

More important is what you going to study (extracurricular) and how you are going to study. Maybe you could try some free Coursera (some free courses where you can go through all the content including assignments/quizzes but will need to pay for the certificate) courses if you have time or some programming courses on Udemy or Code Academy etc.

for the future as cossine said, unless you want to go into a mathematics based degree such as Actuarial for which although MX2 isn't a prerequisite people say its extremely useful. Also, the satisfaction you get when you get a rigged question after being stuck on it for millennia is worth it.
