So we don't lose a mark if we forgot x=/=0? :D
dont think so you really shouldnt i mean many people didn't write that that are putting up solutions (except carrotsticks) its a very anal thing to take a mark off for. anyway it was 3 marks and those 3 marks were actually worth it in finding the locus as it was not as easy as people may think. but if they do take it off than board of studies can go neck themselves

Yeah I wrote the quadratic formula. What I meant was I just didn't let u=x+2/x ( I did what aDimitri did)
That is fine then, you will most likely get the mark.
For the circle locus question, couldn't you just say that since OS is 'a' and find QS which is also 'a' and then jst conclude that it's a circle? If not then I'm screwed lol
That is most certainly allowed, have a read of my updated solutions. However, be careful because you may need some justification.
for the parametric last question you actually have to do it with the equation carrotsticks got. i dont think you will get marks just for "describing" how it is a line on a circle with radius a or whatever it was. for those of you who go to NGO&Sons there was a very similar question in Module 1 of the Parametrics booklet. Overall i believe who ever got the equation x^2 + (y-a)^2 = a^2 will get the full marks. anyone working towards the equation will get some marks and anyone who didnt do this method will get 0 unless your geometric solution was very clear and on point. kind of like terry lee's one.
Peace on the streets SAAAAN
Not quite, it is mathematically correct to prove the equation of a locus geometrically. By doing it the other way, we most certainly prove that the locus is a fixed circle with radius A. However, my concern lies within students providing sufficient justification to be awarded the full three marks.

No, you won't lose a mark for that =)
thoughts carretbranches?

well since the question said show it is a circle with radius a, you don't have to find the equation at all...

YES THANK GOD
Now my question is: does 68/70 become 100 or 99 hsc mark? (I looked at raw marks database and it wasn't exactly clear...)

Still can't believe I lost a mark because I forgot the acute angle formula :'(
Serves me right I guess for not doing maths for a month!
