how would I know if a compound is aq/s/l without a solubility table?

liquid - nothing is this for an ionic compound
aq - not on the Ksp data sheet (most of the time)
s - on the Ksp data sheet (most of the time)

But if you want to be sure you will just have to memorise the solubility rules
