How should I be adapting my prepared Mod C imaginative to the stimulus in the HSC? What are the methods to doing this?

Absolutely you should be adapting it to the stimulus.

Memorise one imaginative + one discursive which is perfected. This will be used if all goes well and the question aligns perfectly. Make sure this is also adaptable by using multiple and broad themes e.g. exploration of relationships, emotions, paradoxes, metafiction, etc. Also make sure this explores at least one main idea from your mod c prescribed texts.

Make sure you have a discursive because some questions just lend to that more naturally.

1) If you're given a stimulus and the question asks to use it as a starting, you might be able to adapt your memorised piece by changing tense and gender and pretending that the given stimulus is like a though that occurred to them, or is a memory they're recalling. Then use one idea and mention it a couple more throughout your piece.

e.g. "I am no bird; and no net ensnares me: I am a free human being with an independent will.” Use this quote as the first sentence of your creative piece.

Continue on from this with your memorised piece, changing it to first person if needed, and add some bits here and their to match the idea of imprisonment.

2) If the question gives a stimulus and asks to write a piece using specific ideas from it, you can think of the stimulus either literally or figuratively. For a bonus, add at least one quote directly from the stimulus or use a metaphor that they used in your own piece. The idea should be mentioned at least 3 times throughout in the beginning, middle and end.

3) If you're asked to use an idea from your prescribed text, it should be pretty easy due to your memorised piece already aligning.

4) If you're given an image you can again think of it either literally or figuratively. This is probably the easiest to adapt to.

After you've written your prepared imaginative + discursive try and see if it aligns with ideas from a variety of different questions, or if you can adapt them properly.
