Hi,
I recently graduated from school, and want to be a dentist. My first preference for UAC is, Bachelor of science and doctor of dental medicine at UYSD. However I want some backup options, in case I don't get in.

I need help deciding what to put as my second and third preferences on UAC and can't decide between a Bachelor of Medical Science or a Bachelor of Oral Health?

Which is a better pathway into dentistry and why?

What has a higher acceptance rate into dentistry? (as i need to think in the long term)

If anyone is actually studying dentistry and can give me some advice, I would really appreciate the help.
thanks :)

I think Bachelor of Oral Health would be the better choice.

Not studying dentistry yet, but have an idea for you. Actually, I want to study dentistry too, so I want to ask my dentist for help choosing a university. I think it’s the best option I’ve come up with recently. I guess doctors want to have nice specialists to get replaced by when they retire.

Why do you say so?
BOH has much higher job prospects than Medical Science. Medical Science has almost none.
Both can be used as pathway into Dentistry.
Pathways include non-standard entry (through GPA +- UCAT) and post-grad (through GAMSAT & GPA).

USyd had dentistry interviews on the 16th how did they go? They notified people of the result on the same day as the interview

It can be challenging to decide on your second and third preferences on UAC when applying to study dentistry, as both the Bachelor of Medical Science and the Bachelor of Oral Health can be good pathways into the profession. Here are some factors you might consider when deciding between these two programs:

  • Curriculum: The curriculum of the two programs may differ in terms of the subjects and topics covered. You may want to review the course descriptions and check with the universities offering the programs to get a better understanding of what each program entails.
  • Pathway to dentistry: Both the Bachelor of Medical Science and the Bachelor of Oral Health can provide a pathway to further study in dentistry. However, the specific requirements for admission to a dentistry program may vary depending on the institution. It is a good idea to research the admissions requirements for the dentistry programs you are interested in and see which program aligns more closely with those requirements.
  • Acceptance rate: The acceptance rate for both programs may vary depending on a number of factors, such as the number of applicants, the overall quality of the applicant pool, and the number of available places in the program. It is difficult to predict which program will have a higher acceptance rate, as these factors can change from year to year.
Ultimately, the decision about which program to choose will depend on your own interests, goals, and circumstances. It can be helpful to do your own research and consult with advisors or professionals in the field to get more information and make an informed decision.
