This is a question from jacaranda page 112.

Draw a diagram to show the direction of the magnetic field lines around a conductor when the current is (a) travelling towards you and (b) travelling away from you.

I think i have the answer to (a) but im not sure. Obviously i have done it from a different perspective so you can see it clearer. Can anyone tell me if (a) is right, and give me a hand with (b) ?

(a) looks good to me. If the current is travelling away from you, then the direction of the magnetic field surrounding the conductor will be oriented clockwise, as given by the right-hand grip rule.

affirmative...

the graph drawn is corret for a)... just that the conductor seems =S can go either way... just indicate it by a dot to indicate traveling towards u or a cross away from u..

for b), as 0pt stated, simply in clockwise direction...

just use the right hand grip rule the thumb is the direction of the current and the other fingers are the direction of the magnetic field
