I've bought a Excel book for Standard so i could have a book that would tell me the techniques and explaination of them for texts, and all i see in the book is analysis. It just keeps explaining what the stories are about instead of how the authors use their techniques. Any one else notice this? What a waste of money.

Didn't you read through before you brought one?

Some of the books have plastic covers on them so you can't just flip it open and start reading it - I know that happens a lot for major brand textbooks and study guides likes Dot Point, Jacaranda, Focus and others.

Yeah they are crap. To prevent this you can always look at it your library - they should have most of the study guides/ hsc resources.

This is not to say that all of them are useless but most aren't worth the money.

Avoid Excel!
+1
excel is too basic, doesnt really provide in depth analysis if you're aiming for the A range.

I personally recommend dot point books( phys, chem, bio) and for english poetry ( no fear shakespeare)
