How many quotes should I memorise for a 45min comparative essay in English Advanced?
And how many quotes should I ultimately be using in the actual assessment?

45 min = 1,000-1,200 words. I'd just go with 4 per paragraph. For Mod A (which is the comparative one), you should have 3 concept-led paragraphs with both texts in them. You should be showing clearly how one text shapes the narrative of the other, and thus it would be better to show this comparison together.

You can do 2 or 3 paragraphs but structurally it should be

Text 1 Technique/Example/Analysis
Text 2 Technique/Example/Analysis - how the first text shaped it or subverted it
Text 1 Technique/Example/Analysis
Text 2 Technique/Example/Analysis - how the first text shaped it or subverted it

if you want an idea of a comparative, I did one in yr 11 got 19/20 and its in my notes and resources

I normally use around 5, but I reckon even 4 should be fine. It's preliminary, it doesn't really matter too much Don't stress too hard!
