I've searched for this and can't find a thread on it...

"Discuss the difficulties in defining the terms health and disease."

This was Q27 in last years HSC.

What I've written is:
- It is possible for a person to be healthy and have a disease.
- The terms are used in general conversation and have different meaning ot the scientific definition.

Can anyone suggest a better answer or maybe to add something to that?

Disease is a state that impairs the proper functioning of the body or a part of the body. When some-one has a broken arm it is an IMPAIRMENT TO HAVE THE BROKEN ARM as it impairs the proper functioning of the arm, but it can not be considered a disease. Same with a pregnant woman. The pregnancy may at times make her feel sick yet it can not be considered as a disease.

Health- complete mental,social, physiological and physical wellbeing. However, what is considered healthy to one person may not be to another (subjective). When a person is ageing and with ageing comes reduced bodily function that person may still consider themselves as healthy.
