$$Not sure if this is the intended method. You can work out the values of every angle in each triangle, so using the sine rule, find an expression for the length of the diagonal $AC$ in terms of $x$. Then find the area of each triangles using $A=\frac{1}{2}ab\sin{C}$. You should get something like $A=x^2\sin{108}+2x^2\cos^2{36}\sin{36}$.$

The answer was area = x^2 sin 108◦ + 1/4 x^2 tan 72◦, not sure where the tan came from or how the x became squared. I'm not too good in this area.
