This reminded me of something funny but kinda unrelated to this post.

My original idea for my major work was to create a collection of limmericks for common male and female names..... so one could find their personal limmerick lol.

ie.

There was a sweet girl called Cass
Who wasn't that great at maths
She dropped it one day
Her mum was dismayed
But she realized she would never pass.

Well.... it's dodgy I know. But one of my friends helped me with that idea......

If I see a limmerick collection in the Showcase book next year, I will know someone stole my idea from here!!!

Lol..I wrote one limerick in my life and it was about my friend.

Here goes:

THere was once a girl named Mandy
Who always liked eating candy
She must be Jack Sprat
For she never got fat
And that was very handy

Before u ppl start criticising, I wrote this in FIFTH grade so take pity on me!!!!

That's nice... a good limmerick. Perhaps you are a natural?

However, if I ever see a book full of limmericks for people's names....... you better watch out!

"Appropriation"

OK....I hate crime fiction, which is inconvenient in it's self, because I am doing crime fiction for three unit english. On top of this - for some reason that is completely beyond me - i chose to write crime fiction for my major work! could i be stupider? no. have i written more than a page? no.
so the only question left to ask is: am i allowed to write about a well established crime fiction character (ie. philip marlowe) in my major work?
and i know what your all thinking....i'll be interested to see my marks as well - everyone else is talking about finishing, and i'm still starting!

luthien, i'd be careful of that...

i was going to do a similar thing for my major (i was going use Buffy as my main character) and i wrote to the Board of Studies and they said while it is ALLOWED to be done, it is not RECOMMENDED as many markers will mark you down claiming you didnt satisfy the 'originality' requirement of the course.

Finishing? *coughs dramatically*. Finishing? I'm barely on my first draft and yes, I know, I AM IN TROUBLE!

You could probably write in an established character, Luthien. Think Williamson and DWM and Shakespeare.

Nevertheless make sure you justify these things in your journal.. and definitely DON'T make it the centre of your work!
