Does anyone have some good definitions for first line of defense, second line of defense, or third line of defense?

Not definitions per se, however:
First line of defense refers to the non-specific barriers that prevent the entry of pathogens.
Second line of defense consists of the inflammatory response and phagocytosis. The inflammatory response is designed to isolate and destroy foreign particles and to prepare the tissue for healing. Phagocytosis involves specific white blood cells called phagocytes engulfing and destroying microorganisms.
The first and second lines of defense are non-specific (i.e. they react in the exact same way regardless of the type of organism they are dealing with).
The third line of defense is the specific immune response. It is the main immune response and attempts not only to destroy pathogens, but to develop a resistance and fight long-term infection.

uhm, something more on differentiating the three lines of defence: first line is the physical barrier between the internals of an organisms( eg, skin, cilia, mucuous, etc etc), second line is more cell mediated (ie, phagocytes, inflamation is more or less a response that allow extra number of whiteblood cells and phagocytes to be active around wounded region, and nutrient for cell to replenish damaged cells) and third line is highly specific, cell mediated (cytotoxic t cells) or bloodstream(? darn, can't remember the exact word) by antibodies...
