Hey guys. Just wondering what everyone is doing for their creative subjects major works. I do textiles and am thinking of doing a costume or item that falls into Textiles art.

Is anyone wondering when to start? Does anyone have a plan on how to move forward without leaving it to the last minute?

What about the prevalent fact that everything seems to have been done before?

im doing costume, its based on silent film and the growing interest or oriental/exotic fabrics from 1915 to the 20's.

over the holidays i hope to have a final design, have done a lot of tests on fabric decoration techniques, found my fabrics and done a few pages in the portfolio. r

really excited to get started but soo freaked out at the same time. im just going to try and do little bits every week so it isnt a mountain of work left right at the last minute because im such a perfectionist! i really really want a texstyle quality work.

are you going to the seminar in a few weeks?

Hey :] I'm doing Lingerie for my MTP, but I'm not sure what focus area to put it in. I got my inspiration from the Victoria's Secret shows. The costumity of Victoria's secret lingerie always amazed me and I'm also adding a Circus-y element to my design. Costume? Apparel? I'm not sure.

Our teacher has given us an assignment to help us get started on our design called a 'Project Proposal'. Basically we sketch a rough design of what we want to make, put in fabric samples, create a basic timeline of what stage we want to be at at certain times and make a list of experiments we could do to put in our portfolio.
The assignment is going to be really helpful for us towards completing our MTP's and I think our teacher is going to be giving us more throughout next year.

And yes, just yesterday I went to the local Art gallery here to view this year's major creative works from my area and it seemed like my project was going to be a dismal failure compared to what they did. Then again, none of them did lingerie so I'm thinking that I'm doing something a little bit out of the ordinary, am I right?

Anyway, good luck.. and sorry for blabbering on, I tend to do that alot. :]

yay that sounds cool, i dont feel alone on this board now!!

i taped the fashion show around christmas last year and i still watch it now. can't wait for the new one to air (youtube takes ages on my computer)

someone in my class is doing animal bras, a couple of years ago my friend did something similar (not for MTP but just for class) it was a VS inspired bra with targets on the cups made with ruffles of blue white and red. it reminded me of your idea, anyway as long as you do something creative and high quality it will be fine. are you going to make wings or anything? that would be uber cool.

we're doing something similar, next week we are giving a presentation of what we want to do for our MTP with fabric samples, inspiration boards and sketches so on. our parents are coming to watch its so cute.

our teacher made us a timeline as well. love her!!

can't wait till friday to check out all of texstyle, really REALLY want to get in next year.

Oh wow those sound great .. i love the animal idea. my lingerie is going to be a babydoll top and matching underwear .. but the 'skirt' of the babydoll top is going to be removable and it will have a corset underneath. I'm doing a bunch of embroidery and beading all over the corset, and also using things like Angelina and Felting.

I thought about making wings or something to put with it, like the angel wings at the VS shows, but after i set out my timeline it didnt really fit in anywhere. I've still got that idea in the back of my head though, just in case I zoom through the rest of my project and my art major. I'm LOL'ing at myself right now because i know that is possibly NEVER going to happen but hey, its worth dreaming about right?

Anyway, I have a 5-7 minute speech to write on the concept of belonging. I'm about half way through and It's due tomorrow, so I'm going to disconnect my internet now so I don't get sidetracked by Facebook and whatnot.

Goodbye.

Lingerie sounds cool, I didn't even think of that. I'm doing wearable art :) it's going to be a backless dress that is a forest. So the bottom is the forest floor and it goes up so the top is the canopy. One side will be burnt to as a symbol insatiable human greed and the ruination of the natural world blah blah too much english. So yeah, it's going to have a heap of techniques and I've gotten all my material from op-shops :D

I'm kind of freaking out though... I have four major projects this year FML. Five if you count both Group performance and IP in Drama. *bites lip* I hope I don't have a mental breakdown.

Went to Texstyle this year and was utterly amazed...all of your ideas sound good as well, i've defenitely never heard of lingerie before so that sounds original to me :)

I'm doing a perpetual calendar, with a different interchangeable 'mini quilt' for each month. My inspiration is manmade and natural landscapes from around the world, so each month will have a different country's landscape, for example 'January in Japan'. I put it in as Textile Art, so planning to have lots of decorative technique stuff.

wow, everyone here sounds so organised! i've had my final design for ages but i've really struggled getting any further. my doing apparel, a silk evening gown embellished with roses around the bottom of the skirt, using anything and everything i can get my hands on. it inspired by 300 the movie and audrey hepburn.
im really starting to stress now because i've got soo much to get done! oh, im doing textiles by distance education to top it all off too! making the dress is going to be the hardest part, the folio is so much easier and kinda more fun too after spending weeks slaving away at a sewing machine
