Hey guys I was looking at the raw mark database and saw a massive difference in raw and aligned marks, so I was wondering how reliable the hsc raw mark database is? For example a 60 in maths advanced scales up to a 80. so I was wondering if many people are surprised about their end ATAR becayse of this alignment?

alignment of marks and scaling of marks isnt the same, alignment is what happens to your raw mark to account for subject difficulty etc and discrepancies between years, and scaling is what happens to your hsc mark to calculate your atar by uac. you'll get to see hsc mark to scaled mark in the uacreport, where most subjects actually scale down

im pre sure raw mark databse is pretty accurate coz its from people entering the marks they bought from nesa

i did use aligned marks to calculate my atar using my trial marks and it was accurate to 1 or 2 points of my atar so its pretty accurate, plus what the dude said above.

I was told how after aligning your mark, it is then averaged with your internal mark to get your overall mark. Is it 50/50 because I kinda I fumbled some of my tests for bio. Another thing is that at our school the bio marking is pretty harsh like the teachers are purpousely trying to do us over, for example some of our teachers say how the answers nesa provides are not good enough so I was wondering if our internal mark will increase?

in essence yes its 50 50 although your internals are changed beforehand to account for harsher marking/comparatively difficult internals. this is done by getting your cohort's internal marks and transposing them to match your cohort's external mark, as the external mark is standardised (as in everyone in the state sat the same exam so this is used as comparison). then these marks are averaged with the rank swapping thing you probably know about.
