What is the difference between these two?

they are the same... they even look the same

but there is a subtle difference between the two:

amphiprotic is a term used only to describe protic acid/base definitions (lowry and bronsted) as acid having to donate proton.

amphoteric is a more general term that applies to acid/bases, for example the lewis definition of acid/bases. i don't think you need to know this for hsc...

amphoteric: when a substance can act as an acid or base
amphiprotic: can either give or accept a proton

Ok thanks for that. It's always nice to know about something you don't need to know, as stupid as that sounds.

thats not stupid, I like filling my head with random info that I'll never use the HSC is good for that

but thats not even in the hsc syllabus... so in a way you filled you own head with random facts without the help of hsc
