they are the same... they even look the same :rolleyes:

but there is a subtle difference between the two:

amphiprotic is a term used only to describe protic acid/base definitions (lowry and bronsted) as acid having to donate proton.

amphoteric is a more general term that applies to acid/bases, for example the lewis definition of acid/bases. i don't think you need to know this for hsc...

Ok thanks for that. It's always nice to know about something you don't need to know, as stupid as that sounds.
