    2007 Q7

    Could someone please explain to me why we can find the maximum of h (in part (ii)) by simply working it out like so?3 - 0.4h > 0 - 0.4h > -3 h < 3/0.4 h < 7.5 m How does the discriminant (I'm assuming that's what we're doing), give you the maximum? Thanks, DJel.

    Examination Procedure

    Hi, I was just wondering if we have to factor writing our numbers on each page into the exam time or we can put them on straight after the exam? Are there any set rules about this? I always thought we could but during trials one teacher noted that we need to account for them in the exam itself...

    SOFT subjects (the easy way out) . Your thoughts?

    I think most subjects have their challenging aspects. I have friends who do visual arts and I don't see it as a 'soft' subject. It just appears that the OP associated 'soft' subjects with low scaling, "despite their woeful scaling", and failed to note visual arts on her list although it receives...

    Equating Coefficients

    Thanks for that solution. Also, I am having a bit of trouble with the short way of finding the greatest coefficient. I know how to expand them out and find the greatest coefficient, however, this just wastes time. What would be the quickest way of doing a question like so; "Find the greatest...

    0! = 1

    Good work... :rolleyes: Thanks for that. I was unable to find a definitive proof and assumed this was so the formulas would work out.

    Equating Coefficients

    Question: "By equating the coefficients of (1+x)10 and (1+x)(1+x)9, show that 10C4 = 9C4 + 9C3" I understand how to get the coefficients of (1+x)10 and from that I can show the relationship using factorial notation. However, I'm unsure what to do with "(1+x)(1+x)9". Thanks, DJel.

    How ignorant and narrow-minded can you be? There is nothing wrong with the quality of major works coming out of the public system.

    Loan Repayments

    "A $2000 loan is offered at 18% p.a. interest, charged monthly, over 4 years. If no repayments need to be paid for the first 3 months, find the amount of each repayment. How much will be paid back altogether?" I can get close to the answer but the answer given is "$64.25; $2891.25" Thanks for...

    Inverse Trig Differentiation

    Hi, "Find the first derivative of y = cos-1 (sinx) in the domain -pi <= x <= pi" I can find the first derivative fine (1 or -1) however each solution only exists in a certain domain. I.e. "-1 for -pi/2 < x < pi/2, 1 for -pi <= x < -pi/2, pi/2 < x <=pi" How do I determine what domains each...
