    Investments and Trading Association (ITA)

Plus there are only about 10 lecturers or something and prob like 200 times the students so its really hard to compare. So I take it ND and Isaaq wanna be IB's later on =). I reckon starting this club will give you guys a good foothold. Smart idea as well coz its very low maintenance... a...

    Corporate or Consulting?

Yes - self-taught is valid. A lot of people pick up and learn VBA on their own because it is very easy to do so (just talk to that crappy paper clip man in Microsoft Office and he helps a lot). Self-teaching isn't that much different from learning on the job... However, some languages, such...

    Corporate or Consulting?

I agree with ND. Actuarial is pretty piss boring. Wealth/finance/investment is a lot more interesting I think and it will be much more practical coz you can play with your own $$$. I wouldn't work as an analyst in a traditional actuarial area. The least I'd settle for is consulting, but I...

    Corporate or Consulting?

Think he means non-consulting. Like just an analyst. If you think about it, consulting gives you more project based stuff - clients are different, so you get varying work. But, there are a lot of fields to go into working in a corporate environment. Many of the banks, investment groups, finance...

    Mathematics at Macquarie University

O... well, apologies for having an interest in UNSW... I guess i should have known better than not to try to compare universities that offer the same degree... I guess a HD at an ivy league college isn't really different from a HD at wollongong as long as people get their exemptions. And to...

    Mathematics at Macquarie University

O I didn't know UNSW likes to play with their marks in that way... Is there some website or some documentation I can read that says how they fix up their marks or something like that? I know that the board of studies has some kind of info on how they scale their 4 unit marks... so maybe UNSW has...

    Mathematics at Macquarie University

Well if you got people able to get 97s 98s and 99s in a course it tells you one of two things: a) the course is too easy b) the students are too smart Mathematics of Finance isn't really one of the super-hard ACST units either. For 2004 at Macq, the person who topped 200 got 92 I think. I...

    Drop out rate?

yea.. it kinda sux when you've got other unis offer a diluted ACST degree with Macq here being hard as balls... i mean, UNSW graduates are gonna come out with the same degree as Macq but have half the fight. i've talked to some UNSW guys and their Part II exemption subject (ACST400 at Macq)...

Plus doing easy subjects to boost GPA doesn't work - employers will probably look more at what kind of subjects you do. So if you do a subject that is easy and is really out of the ordinary (i.e. doesn't look like its in your course), then they'd probably know its a GPA booster.

Generally 3.5 is a probably a good enough GPA to get you interviews in places of high demand e.g. Big 4 and Investment Banks. GPA and cover letters/resumes are the 1st screening process - so have a good cover letter and resume (even if you have GPA 4.0 but still crap cover letter, then you're...
