Actuarial Studies - right path for me?

You are talking shit. How do you know what employers want if you never worked in the industry? Basically at the moment there is shortage of roles, and you need to make contribute to PnL in some way immediately, so you need to have some business knowledge at hand to maximise the opportunity. I...

Actuarial Studies - right path for me?

I think finance combined with something technical is good. You need the knowledge to make a good first impression, and the technical skills to back it up.

Actuarial Studies - right path for me?

Trust me, all the maths you need to know on an exotics desk is probably up to second year calculus and linear algebra,eg Taylor Series for sensitivity analysis, maybe multidimensional Newton's method for calibration routines, (according Luc Faucheux, former head of Citi rates exotics). The rest...

Actuarial Studies - right path for me?

Developing skills are more important than knowledge for business as you could very well be on the forefront when it comes to products and pricing - the ability to learn new things quickly and to take a practical approach is important. Also, all the major breakthroughs in financial mathematics...

    Treasury bonds?

Note that the face value on these bonds is $100,000 from memory, and you usually buy them from authorised dealers. You get crossed on the spread for buying small lots. There are many other higher-yielding alternatives to govies, eg supra's, semi's, gov guaranteed bank debt.

MSc Courses - which one or both?

Lol...for someone who like to promote finance forum on BoS I thought you would be answering more questions than asking them :p These degrees are cheap for locals but for foreigners I'm not so sure...can you post up a link? I thought they rip the balls out of foreign students, like in the US...

MSc Courses - which one or both?

You might not have realised that the age of the coursework computational masters is over (eg Master of Fin Eng, Master of Quant Fin, Master of Stats, etc). Exotics desks and structuring teams have been wound down or are static - they are unlikely to recruit new grads for many years to come...

"Bachelor of Science (Advanced Science) with major in blah" -- this could be reality

Re: "Bachelor of Science (Advanced Science) with major in blah" -- this could be real The good students choose double degrees over Advanced Science because it's a restrictive degree (instead of a flexible one which suits more able students) - your forced to do useless Adv Sci - only courses...

Japanese Language Proficiency Test Study Group (Levels 1-4)?

Haha, I forgot nearly all my maths after working. Nah, I will have to learn new kanji. What levels did you do? They plan on splitting Levels 1 and 2 into 3 exams, and down the track adding a speaking component. Yes, I'm aware of the language diploma but: しごと の あと じゅぎょう が できません...
