so pissed off right now, school is making me drop tafe course because it clashes with advanced english and the principal decided that we weren't allowed to miss out on a period of english to go to tafe because english is the only compulsory subject?!?! are they even allowed to do this?
now that i have to drop this course i have to pick up another subject to get to 12 units sheesh.

was thinking of picking up english extension because there is literally nothing else i want to do (eww science and health is out of the question because i hate it so much and legit fail it). also, i get a better teacher for advanced english if i change to extension, as they allocated the better teachers to the students who also took extension english. the problem is, i'm not sure if i can cope because i read books and stuff really slowly?? is that a really big problem? i think my essay writing is ok-ish (got 90 in yearly report), suck at creatives though lol

i also used to hate english until last year when i got a really awesome teacher who made me think english was ok, but with my current advanced teacher (if i dont pick up extension) i don't think i can stand going to classes OTL.

moving on... update from yesterday: decided to drop chemistry and take up japanese dont even know why i chose chemistry in the first place to be honest... and now doing no sciences trololololol

Pick up Legal and join the Eco/Business/Legal master race In all seriousness, once you reach year 12 do you plan to drop EE1? When I picked up EE1 it was mainly because I didn't want to have 13 units (wanted them frees) and at the time nothing else seemed interesting, so I went in with the mentality that I would drop it. In hindsight I really regret picking it up for that reason and wished I picked something like Bio/Geo/PD (all which seemed somewhat interesting during subject selections).

Despite this, being comfortable with the teacher you have for English would be vital, especially since you guys are starting a new AOS and modules, so I'd take that into consideration as well.

Speaking of band 6, what subjects do you guys wanna get them in?

For me, it's English Advanced, 2U maths and Biology. If I get a B6 in the others, I'd be stoked but that's unlikely, haha.

I'd be pretty happy to get:
B6/E4: 3/4U Maths (if I get in), Geography, Physics
B5: D&T, Chemistry (if I don't drop)
B4-5: English

I study ALOT and I try to feel prepared prior to the exam. As soon as I sit down I'm immediately overwhelmed and lose it. I think it might have to do with confidence, would you agree?

Yes, confidence. This is a recurring problem especially amongst female students.

Suppose I'm your teacher. You are doing your work and I am standing above your shoulder. I presume you would instantly get a mind blank and sit there doing nothing?

To be completely honest, I feel like I lost my confidence in maths a good 9 months ago when I flunked my maths test and ended up with a 70. Thereafter, I have been dealing with anxiety in relation to math exams.

Why did you flunk it? The reason is critical here.

Why do you wanna drop it?

I'm dropping legal for sure because nothing appeals to me about it and I want to spend those free periods improving my maths and chemistry.
For economics, I just have a weird feeling about it and I was going to do biology when economics didn't make the cut, but it did after protesting so I'm kind of divided.

For the BOSers that are doing/did Biology and Economics which do you prefer? I'm considering dropping economics for biology but I'm not too sure.

I haven't done economics but I'm am doing bio and many of my friends do doc, the breakdown:

Biology: heavily based on the memorisation of concepts and issues, not much actual understanding of the content which can be good or bad depending on the person. Currently the content is a tad dry right now but later it gets hella interesting later on. Basically if you enjoyed science in the junior years and are good at memorisation then have a go at it.

Economics: not gonna lie most of my friends who are doing it love it, like you must already know it is a tad content heavy and there is added pressure to remember statistics and facts, so don't forget about that. Also economics is a subject that is ever changing, it evolves with the times and you have to do quite a lot of research yourself ( case studies etc. )

This is only the first week, so I'd say keep bio and eco for now and see how you go. Besides, you might actually like both eventually.

I was in a similar situation to you, in that I had no intention to pick up English Extension One at all. I wasn't doing particularly poorly in English, but I was thinking Advanced English was hard enough, I was questioning whether I will survive if I picked up English Extension One along with it as well. However, our school had a compulsory 12 units system for year 11, and I knew I had to do maths extension one-loved maths, so I needed to pick a one unit subject to fill up my 12 units, however, the other two subjects on offer-Photography and Studies of Religion 1 was subjects I wasn't particularly keen on, and so I just took a leap of faith and decided to do English Extension One. Looking back, I was so glad I made that decision, since I absolutely loved every minute of English Extension One classes-you get the opportunity to delve so much more deeper into analysis and modules whereas in Advanced English I often feel it was quite hurried. You can definitely cope even if your reading speed is not the best in the world, you just need to make sure you develop your analytical skills. Creative writing-read good creative, write based on what you know and practice and get feedback-repeating this process helps you ace your creative

Oh my god gothicism is hella interesting! So jelly, for us all I know right now is that we're doing the individual within society once I find out more I'll tell you so excited for it to be honest

Try get English Adv to mid b5s if you are aiming for 97+. Once you get to the stage where you are looking to get an ATAR over 96 and your English is at b4/b5 level, try improve it as much as possible. (speaking from self experience here)

Aim for a band 6 in all of your subjects-you have two years to achieve your goal, say even if you are a band 4 student, in one year, you can get to a band 5, and in another year, you can get to band 6, I am sure you are much better in English-but I am just saying you've got to aim high, work hard and believe that you can achieve your dreams
