Im sorta confused on what year group i’ll be commencing the session with though. Is it just other people from the class of 2021 that decided to defer for 6 months?

Uni doesn't work the same way. People may have deffered their course like you, international students might have finished their schooling at a time that they enrol mid year, others might be doing the subjects in a different order as you may be already enrolled at university but then doing the subjects you are doing in a different semester.
