i would have done general all along but my brother is a complete mathematical genius who all the maths teachers loved and so when i said i wanted to do general they were like 'of course not we cant have a member of your family doing general' after a year of getting 30% in every task they finally were convinced that i'm not like my brother. then i cam first in general all year yay!

Yeh I dropped to general at the beginning of the year....I thought the exam was pretty easy but Mathematics is different to General...more formulas whereas General is more word problems...From the answers given here looks like I did really well though....

Yeah I was coming 1st in the class in yr11 2U and then when we got to yr12 calculus i just didnt get it (neither did the rest of my class). I started to fail the course and so I dropped to general 1st day of school this year. The other day when i was studying i found my 2U calculus assesment task:
Mark= 8.5/41 :S
Rank= 1st in class!
Needless to say, our entire class dropped to general and we all started to flog the general guys (they weren't happy)
I'm currently ranked 2/82 :D

dropped from 2u half way thru this year. stopped listening when we hit calculas. the cirriculum coordinator convinced me to go to general. i came 1st in three assess, 2nd, 3rd and 5th. accumulative mark = 84%. rank = 3rd. people in front and below all dropped from 2 unit. 2u started with bout 28. now has 8. definitly good decision for me. went from 8% in last 2u test to 94% in first gen test. reckon i got 93% in this by the results posted on here. pretty much everyone found it easy. glad i didn't study...would have been a waste of time!

I was getting around 40% in 2unit exams because I hated the subject, but when I dropped down to general I was hitting over 90% every time. So I definitely benefited by dropping. According to the answers in the other thread, I got 94-95% in the HSC exam.

i dropped back @ the start of yr 12, averaging 50-60% in advanced....1/2 yearly got 93%, trial got 90% and my other assessments i got 94% and i think 91%...all up i was 2/45 but the chick who beat me only beat me overall by 1 mark i think....meh...but she was my motivation :) i definately think i got over 80...over 90 would b a bonus n id b stoked coz then i think i will have 1 subject in the 90's! yay!

I was sooo happy I dropped otherwise I would have totally runied my chances of a good uai. I was averaging 2 unit okay with marks between 60-65% but I didn't want to risk my HSc so I dropped lol -__- Ended up coming 11/87 in grade so I'm ecstatic =D

there was about 10 or so of us that dropped to general about mid term 2

we covered the whole 2 year hsc course in a term and a half in more detail than the other classes did in the two years...needless to say we all went well :)

i did 2unit in yr 11 and totally sucked at it soooo bad!!! i felt like the biggest dumb ass in that class so i decided to drop down to general in yr12 n i ended up coming first in my grade... i was so happy that i dropped coz i actually understand the content of the course and therefore was more motivated to actually listen in class and study..... probably the best decision i made in my senior years

Oh man, dropping from 2U to General was the best and hardest decision for school I've ever made. Best, because I went from 18% marks to 88% marks; hardest, because it meant giving up any and all hope of becoming a fighter pilot.

Oh well. Hoping for 90+%!

I dropped from 2U Maths to general because i was getting between 40-60 in 2U and it wasn't good enough.. first thing i ever failed on.

So i was getting like 80 in General, but then i realised unless i got high 90's it would scale down like a biatch and ruin my UAI. So i got a tutor and did all the past HSC papers for general, and like 5 trials from teh schools, and this General Paper is the easiest out of the past 5 years. So w00t!! i think i did v. good, but the overall results this year should be better than all the past years for general

Spare a thought for those having 'trouble' in Gen

I know its all easy for the 2 unit kids to drop dwn to gen...but spare a thought for the General kids who are already finding it hard as it is. They have no where to DROP DOWN to do they?
Its really not fair... then the gen kids just end up competing against kids who SHOULD be in 2 unit except dont really wanna try..or find it hard.
There should be a way for General math students to drop dwn as well (if they want). Otherwise the marking is just plain biased.
Think about it: kids who should be in 2 unit doing an exam with general math kids who are struggling...then the kid in 2 unit going: "Yay I came 1st"
against who? kids who are less capable then you? thats bullshit

me and about a dozen others (almost even mix of guys and girls, few more gilrs tho) dropped from 2unit to general since the yr eleven 1/2yearly's and for some one who went from getting 26% in 2unit to 75%, then 88% in trials in gen, i can safely say this has been the best move i've made since dropping distance ed art.

Plus as someone said before, i get to hear all the gossip in general and more of my friends do it as well and our teacher is nice to the guys AND girls, not just the guys like our 2unit one was. The boys could talk with him for 1/2 the lesson about footy/cricket/basketball/lawnbowls(slight exageration on that last one) and not be told off, but if a girl even so much as asked to borrow anothers lipgloss they were reminded that "this is our only chance at a HSC...blah blah blah".

My oppinion, HORRAY for general maths! :D

I spent all of year 11 in 2 unit averaging 35%, finally convinced the head teacher of maths to let me drop.

Started year12 general in July, and had no probs since.

Seriously, the difference between the 2unit and general is unbelievable! two totally different subjects as far as im concerned
