Hey i've averaged around 45-60 percent in 2u throughout the year 11 course and i'm ranked around 50/100. I've been wondering if i should drop down to general. It would relieve alot of my pressure. My teacher said the general year 12 course is essentially a repeat of year 11 general and that i'll only have to catch up a bit. Do you guys recommend me to drop?

Hi DragonShox,
This is a tough decision!
I also had to face that choice when I was in high school. I was getting around 50-60 in chemistry but I was more interested in music and It was more intuitive to me compare to chemistry. When I dropped chemistry, I felt really relaxed and I got more motivated to do my other courses as well. From experience, you need to consider:

1) How much you are expecting to improve, in terms of your marks ? Do you expect to get 70 -80 in general maths ? or 90-100 ?
To know that, I suggest to read one or two chapters in General maths textbook, choose relatively difficult chapters, and try to solve the exercises. If you can do the majority of the questions, then general maths is for you. Bear in mind General maths is not a good subject compare to 2 unit in terms of scaling. So you have to make sure you can get pretty good mark.To get a rough idea you can put your expected marks in any atar calculator and compare 2unit and general maths(you can try http://www.atarcalculator.com.au/hsc-help/atar-calculator-2016 or http://www.matrix.edu.au/atar-calculator/ atar calculators)

2) This is a psychological aspect of it. Do you feel more relaxed when you do the questions in General maths. If so take that course. If you planning to go to university, there are bridging courses which you can take to improve your math level to the required level.

At the end of the day, do what feels right because there are always a way to improve your maths level in university.BUT make sure your decision is not influenced by laziness. ;)

All the best.
