I'm a St George Bank's customer and have a few grand with them, i'm thinking of seeking financial planner for financial advice, how much do they typically charge for a typical consultation?

Anyone seen a financial planner before? Care to explain the process?

they dont charge anything, and reccomend the products that get them the highest commission regardless of your financial situation and needs.

finding an independant financial advisor is hard, your best bet is to ask people you know/trust. i went to my banks one (westpac) and all she did was reccomend the banks managed funds. totally useless really.

Do you want a financial advisor from your local bank or a private one? The former doesn't usually charge, although you will find that the latter does, obviously.

If you want someone to advise you on matters regarding shares, options, warrants, futures, managed funds, self-managed super funds, or even oversea markets, check out

Also, if you're with a private investment company such as ING, they also have some terrific planners.
