What's the difference between English standard and English studies in terms of scaling & difficulty.
Do you have to memorise essays in English Studies?

Pretty sure English Studies is a non-ATAR course.
Actually no, you can have an optional external where it goes to your ATAR.

However, the maximum ATAR achieved through this was only 84.15 iirc.

Why not just pick adv english, like a same shit different bucket in respect to standard, far better scaling and arguably the same workload

because in English studies it's a course where you can do the bare minimum to get a good result, chill.

Scaling is not better - it is designed to scale exactly the same. Alignment is different, but the intention is that one would get the same mark in both courses.

Well SORRY TERMINOLOGY WIZARD

I mean like how if you get 82 raw adv english it goes to 90
but you need like 89 raw to scrape b6 for standard

okay? happy now? give me my medal

The idea with alignment is that the 82 in adv requires the same English skill as the 89 in standard. Of course this is generalised across the whole cohort so some/most people might be better off “riding” the alignment of advanced.
