The head teacher at my school gave someone 1 or 3/25 for writing a poem.. in the creative section.. Then when it was remarked by a second teacher it was 9/25, mainly i believe it was due to sympathy cause everyone else scored 15+
so if you just simply wrote a poem, i dont think you may achieve high marks..

Yeah. Sars came round to my place and dropped some PS/Belonging stuff off. Thought I would have time to read it before we were herded in, but NO.

Anyways, I wrote a short story. I was advised against it.

I reiterate- prose poem = lyrical, abstract short story = poetic prose.

Plus, the whole thing wasn't prose poetry anyway, it was half and half.

That just goes to show you how narrow minded the HSC English system is.
I mean, poetry is one of the most creative methods of expressing yourself, and they recommend you to stay away from it?
I can't believe it has that sort of stigma around it.

I think it's because most people's capacity to write poetry is limited to 'teenage angst' themed stuff. Too many people misinterpret the medium.

Anyway, at the end of the day, if your sonnet was tops, you'll get good marks.

I wrote a transcript entitled "Interview with my Father". It's about his Belonging experiences in The Philippines, his home country. I can't remember how many pages I used up though, I think it was 5...
