Wonder if anyone is curious about some of the funny sounding (to mainlanders speaking mando, shang etc) Chinese surnames. I'd very much like to share the little I know. I thought too those Chinese born here may be curious too. Unfortunately I cannot render the surnames in Chinese.

Surname: Chen

In Hokkien in Spore/Msia: Tan
In Teochew Spore/Msia: Tan (but ought to be transliterated - Tang )
In Cantonese: Chan
In Hakka: often Chin
In Vietnamese: Tran

Surname: Wang

In Hokkien: Ong
In Teochew: Heng
In Cantonese: Wong

Surname: Huang

In Hokkien Spore/Msia: Ng, Ooi, Wee
In Teochew: Ng
In Canto: Wong
In Hokkien (Indonesia): Oei (sometimes indonesianised to Widjaya)
In Vietnamese: Huynh, Hoang(?)

Surname: Cai

In Hokkien & Teochew: Chua, Chuah
In Cantonese: Choy
