I just use amazon.com for books $30 and over... even with the shipping, it generally works out to be cheaper than buying locally.

I've gotten A$100 books off amazon.com for A$50.
Did you have a look at less10?

Kinokuniya on Pitt St is great. Nice atmosphere and spacious.

Its ashamed they removed the Yamaha piano, the music it played was peaceful.

Gleebooks 121 Glebe Pt Rd, Glebe.

They look small and poky, but they have a really good range of old and new books, lots of classics, and Heaps of non-fiction and 2nd hand textbook type stuff if you're looking for something for school/uni.

I buy a lot of books off ebay. Even with postage I always ending up saving quite a lot off the RRP.

There's a second hand bookshop called 'T's' up at Randwick next to Marcellin... Though, if you want to trade in books, the owners really a btich about it... VERY picky about the books! :p

Just for anyone who happens to live in canberra -
I went bookshopping the other day and found a fabulous bookshop in fyshwik - called Academic Remainders

Had a great selection of books - at great prices -

I recommend it

Re: Canberra Bookshops

Odd, I was in Canberra on tuesday and dropped into the little bookshop in Manuka there on the strip with the cafes opposite the cinema. Quite nice, good vibe. Picked up a copy of poetics that i'd wanted for a while now.

Cooks Hill Books on Darby Street in Newie is great. So cheap.
They have LPs too. It's the bomb.
There's also a little bookshop on Beaumont St... I forget what it's called, but they can get pretty much anything in... Including the stuff that Angus & Robertson claim that they can't get.

New bookstore on Pitt Street in the city called Elizabeth's Bookshop just opened up about more than a week ago. Pretty good range of books and cheap as well.

From my experience with buying books, shop around at many shops. Books at Kmart are usually cheaper than at Dymocks or Angus & Robertsons.

yeah kmart and big w normally have that 30% discount from other prices
