Hey! Congrats to you all for getting your first round interviews! Massive achievement In terms of what the questions were like, I honestly don't remember specifics, it was all kind of a blur, but I don't remember any real wild or curveball questions. In terms of preparing, know the stuff you...

i dont know what i wanna do in uni

Hey! Completely understandable that you aren't sure, cause really, who is? I'm a first year economics student at USYD, and my brother is a mech engo/advanced science student at UNSW, so I can give a bit of insight into what both can offer in terms of uni and career-wise (tho, of course, I know...

    Economics

Definitely agree! I'm an econ student at USYD as well and there is quite a bit of maths coming up in the degree. If you want to do pre-honours courses in second year, you have to do a maths class alongside it, and it does get in quite deep with new topics that aren't covered in the HSC like...

Also with the red flag thing, I don't think it'll really be a massive red flag, it shows that you have your areas of interest and your passions, plus UBS puts cadets in so many different devisions. That being said, make sure you still come across as open to working in any team/open-minded about...

No need to apologise! For the competency test, as far as I am aware, everyone had to do it. I'm not sure what the practice questions are like cause i feel like PCA can get them to put together a customised questions pack but it really isn't all that difficult. I can't 100% speak to what sort...

I love your attitude! So long as you aren't working in back office doing tech or something, I think you'll get plenty of exposure to econ. If you want more direct exposure to economists and economics research, they're usually with the research team, and I'm sure UBS will have a global economics...

can you lose a mark if a question asks two identify two things, and you identify three of which only two were correct, can you still get two marks?

If it is a set guideline, I doubt it's publicly available, but it's come from my teachers back in high school, many of whom have done a lot of marking for the hsc

Simple fact about HSC markers: You can only gain marks, you can never lose them. If you write a lot of crap for an essay and get everything right and have unnecessary extra stuff in there, then you didn't get the marks for being clear and concise. But, you don't lose marks.

Hi again! All good, happy to help :) If you want a shot at global markets then UBS is probably the best bet, I have friend who works as a cadet at UBS in global markets, and I'm not entirely sure how Macq even runs their cadetship program. Keep in mind though that working for these massive...

Hi! First year cadet here. The number each company takes every year can vary, but generally, UBS takes the largest cohorts each year, like 15+ a year. Keep in mind these are businesses, and while cadets aren't nearly as expensive as their other employees, these businesses are still influenced...

    extracurricular for uni application

These sorts of things only come up in applications for scholarships or special entry schemes. For the most part for USYD and UNSW, everything is pretty much done through UAC.

    Cadetships

Most likely? They would probably be a bit surprised considering the whole process would've taken from March to September/October before you get a conditional offer, but they can't force you into it or anything

But still very tiring don't get me wrong

    Cadetships

oooooooo good question, I would say it's less stressful, but mostly because the HSC seems like a lot less stressful once you've moved on and graduated and it also just putting in the work feels a bit more normal than it once did, especially cause the HSC was the first time anyone really ever...
