    DART in a manual

Just a few quick questions for the people who passed their test in a manual - Is stalling (on a normal street while driving) an instant fail item? I've heard it is, but another person told me it's only if you stall whilst doing your kerbside stop/hill start. When you get in the car and...

Developing Academic Language Skills - complusory workshops for UG

Stop stressing people, this was the biggest waste of two hours. Nothing useful was gleaned, unless you're the kind of person who needs to be told not to include exclamation marks in essays or reports....

    Languages

Just a quick question with regards to language subjects offered by unis. Is there a difference between, say, 'Spanish studies' and 'Spanish'? I've been reading all the subjects offered under arts degrees, I'm just worried that I'd think I was safe by going to a uni which offers spanish...

    Exchanges

I just got back from my exchange to Freiburg in the south of Germany. I was away for around ten months and changed host families once (although I still didn't get on with the new one...) Anyway if anyone has any questions, feels like speaking German or wants to compare exchanges, PM me!

    Tag!

I would have to disagree with you there Galadrial. I'm not saying just using grammar books is the best idea, but definately don't make the mistake of not learning a good amount of grammar. It is critical if you want to go anywhere with the language, in regards to careers and the HSC, although...

    Beginners German

Hi! The weather is fluctuating wildly at the moment. We've had days of 28 degrees (last weekend) and days where it's pissing down with rain (today). I would say the saying "April, April, macht was er will!" applies here, but it's May! Nevertheless I would say come visit Germany! Aside from...

    Gap Year

It's easier to apply this year and defer (well, for me it involved filling out a tiny form and mailing it off) than it is to apply next year, simply because it's easier to apply to UAC as a current school leaver and you've got your careers advisor there to help you if you have questions.

    Tag!

The key to learning German is immersion and it's completely possible wherever you are. Go through grammar books, rent movies in German, watch German TV shows, read German websites and books, find people in your area who you can practise...

    who works/worked at Oporto?

I didn't get official training, it was more like "OK, you start today, go serve some customers. You'll figure things out soon enough". So obviously I got paid from the word go and it took me about a week to get the hang of working the front end.

    open high?

I would still get yourself a grammar book and start going through it. You'll obviously have the advantage of a more natural fluency and probably a larger vocabulary, but in the exam we've all got dictionaries so the non-native speakers, who have struggled with but nailed the grammar - often have...
