Music 2 Elective Topics
| BikiCrumbs: Music 2 Elective Topics |
From Biki
One elective topic is chosen by students to study, in addition to their core topic of Music of the last 25 years (Australian focus). Here is the list of topics:
- Music of a culture
- Medieval music
- Renaissance music
- Baroque music
- Classical music
- Music in the nineteenth century
- Music 1900–1945
- Music 1945 to music 25 years ago
Note: Students may have studied one of these elective topics in year 11 and hence should choose a different topic for the HSC course.
Students must study pieces reflective of the genres within their elective topic, e.g. fugues in the Baroque period, Classical symphonies, etc, OR they can study works of composers within that period, e.g. Music of the 19th Century – Chopin, Tchaikovsky, Mendelssohn, etc. They could be asked questions on their elective topic in the essay section of the exam, so elective pieces as well as core pieces must be prepared.
Students then can either specialise in performance, composition or musicology, which must reflect their elective topic. Further details are given in the three specialisation areas.
